London Heathrow Walkabout

13 Mar London Heathrow Walkabout

Both times that I have attended the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival I have made hundreds of images both on the way there– and on the way back. – Both times I have had overnight layovers at Heathrow on the way back that required me to get a cheap hotel. The first time I stayed in an area under threat of a new runway. This time I think I stayed on the other side. I woke up at 6am, and nervous that I wouldn’t wake up by 7 I got up and went out for a walk. I stayed on the main road and before I knew it I had hit the airport. I realized this when a massive jet set down in front of me as I passed a wacky round Holiday Inn that abutted the airport. I hustled back to my hotel in order to catch the 7:48 bus. I grabbed my bags and made it out by 7:43 only to see the bus pulling away.. It was actually a 7:41 bus… I chased after it but it didn’t stop. When I found out that the next one wasn’t coming for about 45 minutes I just retraced my steps with my bags and hopped on a double decker by the Holiday Inn that took me right to the terminal. It was nearly empty so I got the front seat on the top. When I got on the plan I spotted the Holiday Inn as we taxied forward to take off.
